Struggle
DEFINITION: To be strenuously engaged with a problem, task, or undertaking. For example: Struggled with his math homework.
STRUGGLE IS MULTIDEMONSIONAL
Struggle can be defined as to contend with resolutely with a task, problem, etc. Many people think and say that whatever bad comes in life is a teaching or a
blessing. Much investigation has been kept on this topic. This essay will argue that against what some may think specifically. Struggle, specifically poverty and
racism, is multidimensional and has implications that can harm us.
Struggles are multidimensional. We see this in Breaking Through. For example, one of the struggles Panchito experiences is being undocumented. This struggle
causes him to live in fear and be deported. An example from “(Jimenez ,6),” discusses that his family might be separated because his mom, his brother Robert
and him did not have documentation and his rest of his family did. Another example Is on “(Jimenez, 4)” Panchito was in his Social Studies class when the border
patrol officer came to take him away. The last example is Panchito says he lives in fear because he knows La Migra might come to get him any time(page 1).
Overall this explains how struggles are multidimensional.
Along the lines of struggle being multidimensional, we can also examine itsimplications see figure 2. Once again Panchito struggles with poverty. Poverty
affects Panchito’s child labor, health, living conditions, and education. There are examples from the book that show the implications of poverty. One example is
Panchito’s dad braced himself to ease his back pain as Panchito’s Siblings helped his dad stand (page 6). This shows that Panchito and his family have health
problems. The next example is he lives in a very small house/village (page 1). Another example is Panchito was thinning lettuce (Page 19). The last example is
Panchito and Roberto finally arrived at Santa Maria alone (page 18). As you can see poverty really affects the living of Panchito.
There are implications of poverty found in other sources. The first example is poverty affects how people are treated; research states that, “When a woman gives
her opinion, they [men] make fun of her and don't pay attention." Next, sources state/say, “My grandfather would always treat homeless people bad. He would
never give them a dime.” The last example is “Why do we treat Third world poverty differently than poverty in "Industrialized" nations?” Overall, there are many other
places that you can find that will tell you about how people are treated wrong.
Struggle can be defined as to contend with resolutely with a task, problem, etc. Struggle also affects the health of people. For example many people think and say
that it is really sad for someone not to be able to pay for their own hospital bills. So this shows that many people can’t afford to live a life being healthy. Another
example is some children live with their families where there are a lot of people who smoke around them. This shows that children may have breathing problems or
heart problems due to being around to much people who smoke. The last example is poverty can also affect people’s minds because they can start by having mental
problems. So this can affect them by them becoming crazy and doing bad things. Overall, you see how poverty affects the health of people.
Struggle also affects peoples the living conditions of people. The first example is people who live in poverty have bad living conditions because they have to steal
carts from stores and use it to live in. This is bad because if bad weather gets them they may die. Another example is that people who live in poverty either have a
small and cheap home or have no home. This hurts them because they wouldn’t have any place to put their food or be able to live a happy life. The last example is
poverty also affects them by a multi-variate analysis of the relationship between various social and economic aspects of living conditions. Overall, you see that
poverty also affects living conditions.
Poverty can also affect the education of people. This affects them because if they don’t have a car or home. This affects them because they can’t get an
education and become great in life. Another example is that some schools cost you money to go there. This affects them because if they can’t pay for it they can’t
get an education. The last example is that they have to work to get a house they have no time to worry about school so they wont be able to learn anything to
become a success.
Overall, you can see that poverty not only affects the living conditions, education, treatment of people, and the health of people. Poverty may also affect racism
to people. From all the reasons I have said, poverty is a very bad and affective thing to the world.
Poverty is not the only struggle that has implications; racism is just as damaging. Racism is defined as the belief that all members of each race possess
characteristics or abilities specific to that race. In other words racism is the judgment of the color of one’s skin by another person. In the temptation to make them
feel careless about themselves.
Racism has implications in the book of Breaking Through. For example the book Panchito’s friends were making fun of him because he was getting taquitos for
lunch, he didn’t like being made fun of like that so he told his mom that he didn’t want to be served Mexican food for lunch instead he wanted a sandwich. Another
example is Roberto was dating a girl and her parents didn’t want her dating him because he was Mexican. The implications of this are that Roberto didn’t get to keep
on dating his girlfriend (On page 106). The last example is that since Roberto was Mexican Darlene’s father did not want her to marry him (page 146-150). The
implications areOverall, racism is shown in various ways in Breaking Through.
The movie, 42, about the Jackie Robinson story, shows examples of racism and its implication. For example a coach from a team his team and him were
playing was calling him names and was telling him that baseball is a game for white people not for colored people. This shows that people grew thinking that colored
people shouldn’t be allowed to do things with white people, so when they saw That Jackie, a colored person was playing on the same field as white people they
became really upset. The next example is the pitchers would keep throwing the ball at Jackie’s face to get him mad. This shows that not even a pitcher can handle
playing on the same field as a colored person. So you can see that back then (in time).
The movie 42 still has many more reasons of how racism is shown in it and its implications. For example, Jackie goes through all this stress because of how
people make fun of his skin color. This caused him to have stress and not want to play baseball. Another example is that a man came to the place where Jackie
was staying and told him that he better eave or more men are going to come get him. This shows that many white people are against colored people. Overall, you
can see how racism is shown various times in the movie 42.
Racism can happen anytime, anyplace, and anywhere. Even when people see others being racist they don’t do anything. For example, kids (young kids) prefer to
play with white dolls to colored ones. I saw this in a research video. Another example is some kids in school tend to not play with the colored (African American) kids
when able to play. This shows that even in a young age kids get into a habit of not playing with kids that are a different race. The last example is colored people tend
to get in trouble to show that they are tough and make the white kids want to hang out with them. This shows that people have to do bad things to get attention and
be noticed. Overall, you can see that racism has implications in society today.
Stress (struggle) can become someone’s friend and if you believe that it is good for you but it can have its implications. For example, stress can help getting
oxygen to your brain because of the heavily breathing. This can help the brain be stronger than it is. The next example is that it makes the heart beat faster. This is
good because it prepares the heart for any sudden actions. The last example is that if you believe that stress is good for you than it can decrease the risk of dyeing.
This is good because it lowers the chances of the risk of people dyeing. Overall, you can see than stress can actually become a person’s friend.
In Conclusion, struggle, specifically poverty and racism, is multidimensional and has implications that can harm us. Poverty causes people to have bad living
conditions, bad education, the way they are treated, and their health. Racism affects the way people feel about themselves. Lets stop racism and poverty and speak
up for those who can’t and help them.
